About LUS Fiber : Lafayette Utilities System (LUS)

LUS Fiber is a separate, but related, division of Lafayette Utilities System (LUS). The two entities were born under very similar circumstances – both resulted from visionary citizens choosing to actively shape their own future.

In 1896, local residents petitioned Lafayette’s mayor and council for a tax election to fund creation of a city utility system. They believed a publicly owned system to be the best choice to provide quality services to the community. The Grant Street plant was generating electricity the following year.

Today, LUS provides high-quality electric, water and wastewater treatment services at competitive prices. The organization and its employees also have a deep commitment to serving the community through volunteer efforts and donation of in-kind services. LUS invests directly in Lafayette with an In-Lieu-of-Tax (ILOT) contribution to the Lafayette Consolidated Government of several million dollars. This money has a direct impact on the city’s budget, supporting the cost of government operations such as fire and police protection, and parks and recreation.
